Mtn Air FSX 208B Caravan ~ Black Instruments

Postby MTN2082 » Fri Feb 25, 2011 7:39 am

I've installed our FSX Cessna 208B Grand Caravan and only see black instruments. I've compared the Mtn Air 208B against the FSX default 208B and all looks identical except for the texture folder which appears resonable. Does anyone have a suggestion to resolve this?

Thanks!

Ron,
Try moving the file Cessna208B_XML from the 208's panel folder to the FSX Gauge folder.

Dale, Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, moving the moving the file Cessna208B_XML from the 208's panel folder to the FSX Gauge folder had no effect on the gauges. It’s a zipped file. I restarted FSX and it had no effect on the gauges, except now I can’t see out the windscreen because it’s solid green (you can see in from the outside view).

I unzipped Cessna208B_XML and found bitmap images and XML documents. The FSX gauge folder contains .gau files, so I left the Cessna208B_XML zipped inside the FSX gauge folder.

I’m ready for another suggestion. :D

 Another approach maybe a Mountain Air paint for the default FSX Caravan 208B. Does anyone have this?

What you could try to do is either move the Mountain Air 208 panel folder to a temp directory, and make a copy of the default C208 panel folder and drop it into the Mountain Air C208, or make an new panel.cfg and Alias to the FSX C208 panel.

I looked at the blank texture set for the Default FSX Cessna 208, It would be a nightmare to do a Mountain Air Paint the way their parts are broken up all over the place.

Dale, thanks for for your assistance and looking in to repainting the FSX Cessna 208B Caravan. Here’s an update on my black instruments issue... Using the FSX Caravan panel didn’t solve the black instruments issue but, did remove the green windscreen issue that cropped up. I’ve given up for the moment. I want to fly instead of spending anymore time debugging. :geek: I’ll revisit it later.

Thanks again!

I asked the same thing about the c208 guages in a post here back in Aug 10, 2010 but nobody replied. I copied the panel from the default MS 208 into the MTN-air c208 and still use that arragement. 2-d panel is OK but no virtual panel guages. I got tired of waiting and bought the Caranado 208. The Caranado is cool but they only use the virtual cockpit and it does not come with a 2-d panel, go figure. Also I am using a Tradewinds VA Alaska Cargo paint job I got from them on the Caranado version, it looks more like what you might see at PAJN. The other option, just use the default MS 208s and pretend. The exsisting mtnair FSX 208 is a bit dated, and the textures have issues as well. Too bad because the 208 is widely used in Alaska and other cargo operations. Perhaps it will receive some attention in the future.

Hi Guy's,
I just installed it on my FS Rig, no problem with the instruments but it does have a texture problem on the right side.
I use Windows 7 64 bit, what are you using?
If your running Vista or Win 7 try installing with Admin Rights, Right click on the installer, select Run as Admin.
I'm sure you already know this, just trying to help troubleshoot :)

I noticed a C208 painting download on Flightsim.com the other day. Any possibilty this would facilitate the painting? FSX Cessna C208b Caravaan layered paint kit, file # : fsx_c208b_lpk.zip. Lee mtn2003

I seen that and got it, I was working on a version prior to that kit, McPhat has me busy at the moment will try and finish it when I'm done there.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I had the same problem with an EMB-120 several years ago but don't remember how I fixed it.
