360 Pan

Did you know that your hat switch or you keyboard can be set up to pan 360 degrees side to side or up and down in the cockpit mode??  FS presently does that in slew mode. But it can also be done in cockpit mode. It's a lot better then having to push the "W" key so you can see. If you have a hat switch it is very easy to set it up to pan 360. Setting the keyboard up is a little more complicated The first step for both ways is to edit your FS9.cfg file. If you don't know how to edit, then please do not continue Open FS9.cfg with a text editor. Scroll down until you see this line " PAN_RATE=400 " Add this line after that line without the quotation marks. " PAN_IN_COCKPIT_MODE=1 "

Start FS. The next step is to set up a button on your joy stick or keyboard to "look forward now (pan reset)". On the keyboard I would suggest number pad 5 with number lock on. This is the only way to be sure that you are  looking ahead when you need to be. Push this button frequently or you might end up looking in one direction and flying in a different direction. At this point if you are using your hatswitch you are finished. If it doesn't work then check and make sure that you did everything correctly as stated.

Keyboard::: You will need to do the above editing plus the following to use your keyboard in 360 pan mode. You will need to change some of the assignments in FS. I suggest using the arrow keys between the letter keys and the numeric keypad. Assign "look left (pan)" to the left arrow key, "look right (pan)" to the right arrow key "look up (pan)" to the up arrow key, "look down (pan)" to the down arrow key.

To get to the change assignment window start FS. Click options, click controls, click assignments. Scroll down until you see the assignment you want to change, " look left (pan)" highlight with your mouse,. Click on change assignment at the bottom of the screen. Push on the left arrow key on your keyboard. Click OK. Do all 5 assignments changes. If you ever reset FS defaults you will have to redo these 5 assignments. Have fun. MTN520 Don.
