Piston prop VS Turbo prop
Posted 1/29/06
The biggest difference between these types of engines is aircraft control. A throttle change with a piston engine will give you instantaneous engine change. With a turbo, when you change the throttle settings there is a delay before the engine adjust. The same goes for turbo jets. Delayed engine response. Sometimes you have to give a thought to flying conditions before you pick your aircraft. KLAX, KSLC use a turbo. Mountainous flying into short RWYs, where aircraft control is important, use a piston. If you are having trouble landing, try flying a piston aircraft for a while. You will see a big difference between a piston prop and a turbo prop. Turbos are usually faster but if I am in a hurry I take up the MTNAIR B757. Have fun. MTN520 Don
