Salt Lake City Hub's Charter Route 2

This particular charter route is a VFR round robin flight around the mountains of Boise in Southwestern Idaho.   The runways on these fields are short and some of the approaches are steep.  The Mountain Air Beaver or the DH6 Twin Otter would make great choices.  Leave Boise with a payload of 2000 lbs.

« = Difficulty Rating, according to MTN199 (1 = easiest, 5 = most difficult); The rating considers the entire leg, including both departure and arrival airports and their status with respect to runway length, type of runway, approach/departure requirements, etc. Other factors that are not included in the rating are type of aircraft, weather, etc.

Leg 1 - Boise (KBOI) to Atlanta (55H):«««
Navigation & Advisories: Depart Boise and turn to a heading of ~ 56o.  Fly this heading while climbing to an altitude of 9000 for 50 NM.  The runway is oriented N-S and is at 5499 feet.  The northly approach is fairly steep so I would suggest the south approach unless you are feeling lucky.  Drop 500 lbs of your load here.

Leg 2 - Atlanta (55H) to Weatherby (52U): «««
Navigation & Advisories: This is a very short flight.  Weatherby is only 8 NM from Atlanta on a heading of 256o.  Approach 52U from the N as the S approach is a steep descent over the mountain.  The runway runs 3-200 and is at 4492 feet.  This is a gravel runway.  Drop 300 lbs of cargo.

Leg 3 - Weatherby (52U) to Graham (U45): ««
Navigation & Advisories: And another short hop to Graham.  Fly a heading of 1o for 8 NM.  Either approach to this N-S lying runway will work.  This runway is sitting at 5725 feet and is a wonderful break from the other two steep approaches.  Leave 300 lbs on the tarmac.

Leg 4 - Graham (U45) to Garden Valley (U88): ««
Navigation & Advisories: Depart Graham and turn to 266o.  Follow this heading for 29NM.  Garden Valley lies at the base of a steep mountain at 3176 feet.  The West approach is steep so I recommend the east approach which is fairly long and follows the valley floor.   Drop off 400 lbs here and grap a cup of jo before departure.

Leg 5 - Garden Valley (U88) to Idaho City (U98): «
Navigation & Advisories: Depart U88 and head 149o for 16 NM.  This brings you to a NE-SW running runway at 3917 feet.  This is a fairly easy approach and either direction will work.  Leave your remaining 500 lbs here and prepare to head for home.

Leg 6 - Idaho City (U98) to Boise (KBOI): «
Navigation & Advisories: Time to head for home.  Depart Idaho City and turn 209o.  Tune in the Boise VOR 113.3 and follow the beam.  Boise ILS for 10R is 111.1.  The runway lies 10/28 at 2868 feet.  Park and grab a cold one.  You've earned it.
