Humanitarian aid for earthquake victims in Peru

By Michael Wiercioch, MTN1610

The situation in the Peruvian regions hit by the earthquake remains critical, even now, several weeks after the quake. Hospitals have been damaged or totally destroyed, and water and electricity supplies have been cut off in some areas. It is currently estimated that more than 30,000 houses have collapsed, leaving many people sleeping out in the winter nights. Some of the Peruvian regions hit by the earthquake are still barely accessible. The search and rescue work continues. The town of Pisco to the south of Lima has suffered the most damage - 70% of the town lies in ruins.

International assistance for the survivors is now on its way. Mountain Air´s PAJN Cargo Hub is among those providing humanitarian aid in cooperation with non-governmental organizations in order to overcome the worst hardships.
