Route 13
by Ron Jorgensen - MTN1652
This route is Amphib or Float. It is designed for flight at low altitudes. Varying weather is suggested to change the difficulty of the flights. Splash flights are VFR ONLY! No autopilot either!! If you want to fly high watching an autopilot, this division is not for you.
Flight Plan - Hyder (4Z7) to Tomgas Harbour (Z43) to Ketchikan Harbour (5KE)
Flight Time - About 1 hour in a G-21
WX: - 500'-Overcast Vis.- 5 mi. Snow Wind- 270/10 kts.
Your assigned altitude is 300' MAX
Depart Hyde (4Z7) and take up a 200 degree heading for about 15 miles then turn right and follow the Pearse Channel staying to the right side. When you come to the Chathan Sound turn right, dodge around a few islands and soar into Tongas Harbour (Z43).
You will have to vear a little to the left leavingr Z43 to clear some land (you are still at 300' aren’t you?) but then you have a pretty good shot at Ketchikan Harbour. (Landing on that hard surface runway is a NO NO. Shame on you for even thinking about it.)
NO NO’s - Use of anything like FSNav, FS Flight Planner, etc means you are only cheating yourself so don’t do it. Ron's Advice:
Use of the GPS Map would be a smart idea. How Tough Do You Want it to Be? Screenshots THE END Back to the PAJN SPLASH!
