Route 9

by Ron Jorgensen - MTN1652

This route is Amphib only.  It is designed for flight at low altitudes.  Varying weather is suggested to change the difficulty of the flights.  Splash flights are VFR ONLY!  No autopilot either!!  If you want to fly high watching an autopilot, this division is not for you.

Depart - ID94 (Friendly Persuation Farms)

Arrive - 78U (Snake River Seaplane Base)

Dist. - 27NM

WX - Set weather to 3800? Overcast 5 miles in Haze Winds 120 @ 10 mi.

This is a little jaunt of about 27miles (one way) that will test your skills landing in a tight spot. I would suggest a smaller type Amphib plane. You’ll see why as you read on. Place your favorite plane at ID94. Take off and assume a 195 deg heading for 27 miles. Climb up to 3700’ You are heading for Snake River SPB (78U) *. The Water Ways are SW & NW 3,000' long at 735' in elevation. BUT BUT there seems to be a little obstruction on either end of the Water Ways like TWO big bridges. One on either end of the WW. You could possibly fly under one of the bridges but there is only a 75' total clearance so that’s your choice. If you do fly under one of the bridges expect to meet John Law when you deplane. (Don’t call me, I’ll call you) or (the checks in the mail for Bail) YEAH, RIGHT After or if you land successfully, and are not in jail or tangled up in a bridge try taking off and landing a few times from both WW’s. If they don’t throw you in jail please return the plane (in one piece) .

Ron's Advice:  78U is located just on the other side of the second bridge you see as approaching. (See Pics).

Jeff's Advice:  Aim for the 'high side' of the river when you spot the 1st bridge. A little left aileron when you pass over the bank and you're sliding in on a straight approach.
