This trip is
the first of what I hope will be many Tropical Adventures. This flight will
require the use of two different planes to complete it, a jet, and a turboprop.
This flight begins at SKBO in Bogota, Columbia.
The first leg is roughly a Southwesterly course to
Lima, Peru (SPIM). You will be carrying a couple tons of medical supplies so any
plane that can carry that much weight will do. I recommend either the Bae146 or
the 727.
At Lima, you will offload your plane and transfer
your load to any turboprob you choose. I flew this with the EMB120 and did just
fine, but I think the B1900 will carry the weight better.
The Second Leg
This leg actually consists of three individual
flights to three different airports in the Andes mountains. Depart SPIM and head
NW on a hdg of 069 degrees for 212 nm. Land at Atalaya (SPAY) and unload 700 lbs
of supplies. This is the shortest and lowest elevation of the three runways.
Now the fun begins. Depart Atalaya and turn to a hdg
of 172 degrees. Follow this course for 179 nm to Andahuaylas (SPHY). The
elevation here is 11299 so make sure you have your oxygen mask handy. Unload
another 650 lbs of supplies and prepare to head for a higher climate.
Depart SPHY and turn to 124 degrees. Follow this
course for 228 nm until you come to Puno (SPNP). This is the only clay runway
you have. Altitude, 13120 feet above sea level.
